Etta James

Tis a sad day for music as one of the greatest R&B and Soul singers of all time, Etta James, died aged 73 this morning of Leukemia and other related illnesses. She bought us classics such as "Dance with Me", "Tell Mama", "I'd Rather Go Blind" and of course "At Last". She is regarded as having bridged the gap between R&B, Blues and Rock n' Roll, won 6 Grammy Awards in her lifetime and 17 Blues Music Awards. She has influenced a huge number of musicians including Beyonce, Diana Ross, Janis Joplin, Christina Aguilera, Amy Winehouse, Adele and Joss Stone, to name only a few, and I'm sure she will continue to influence artists to come. She will be missed - here's a video of her singing "Something's Got a Hold on Me" in 1962.
